KUALA LUMPUR: Yang Dipertua Negeri Melaka Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam and Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil will both be conferred with doctoral degrees this Saturday at the 63rd Universiti Malaya (UM) Convocation Ceremony, joining 8,326 other graduands.

The inaugural convocation session will be inaugurated by UM Chancellor, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah Al-Maghfur-Lah.

Yang di-Pertua Negeri Melaka Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam is set to be conferred with a doctoral degree in History and Archaeology, granted by the distinguished Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

In a similar vein, Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil is poised to be honored with a doctoral degree in Syariah Law, to be awarded by the esteemed Academy of Islamic Studies.

"This year, UM will celebrate the graduation of 8,326 students in the 63rd Convocation Ceremony, which will span 13 sessions from Nov 25 to Dec 2.

"The 63rd Convocation Ceremony will also award an honorary degree to Tan Sri Dato' Sri Dr. Sulaiman Mahbob, a well-known figure in the public service with significant roles in the corporate sector.

"Additionally, an honorary degree will also be conferred upon Professor Tan Eng Chye, the President of the National University of Singapore (NUS)," said the university in a statement.

Moreover, nine distinguished UM professors will be honored with the Professor Emeritus title and concurrently, two recipients will receive the esteemed Royal Education Award.
