KANGAR (8th JANUARY 2015): Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail today flagged off Perlis State Islamic Religious Affairs and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) post-flood relief volunteer team to the east coast states.
The team of 15 MAIPs officers was joined by some 150 volunteers from other agencies and non-governmental organisations including Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Perlis branch campus, Regiment 504 of the Territorial Army and state People's Volunteer Corps (Rela).
It was MAIPs second flood relief mission after the first convoy was deployed to the flood-hit states on Dec 31.
Maips Baitulmal manager Mohd Nazim Mohd Noor said besides helping in the massive cleaning operation in hospitals, clinics and schools in Kelantan, the team would also distribute food and essentials items such as blanket and diapers to the flood victims during the three-day mission.
Meanwhile, Perlis UiTM rector Prof Datuk Dr Ahmad Redzuan Abd Rahman said the university deployed a team of volunteers comprising 49 students and 15 staff in two buses and a lorry loaded with supply to Machang, Kelantan.
Equipped with two generator sets, water pumps, water tanks and other cleaning equipment, he said the team would help to clean as many affected schools as possible as the new school term would start this Sunday.
He also said that the team also brought along stationery supplies to be distributed to the students affected by floods.
