6 March 2018 (Tuesday), KANGAR - The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail said Perlis was capable of managing the administration of Islamic religious affairs of the state in a sustainable manner on par with federal government Islamic religious agencies.

He said the Federal Constitution which recognises the management of Islamic religious affairs as a state's right was in line with the position of the Malay rulers as the head of Islam in their respective states for centuries.

"Hence, the Perlis State Constitution of 1948 which sealed the 'Manhaj Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah' was not bound by any school of thought or 'fiqh' (Islamic jurisprudence).

"From a federalism perspective, Perlis has its own guidelines governing its royal institution and enshrined in the state constitution," he said when officiating the state-level 'Nadwah Murrabi Ummah' at Dewan 2020 here today.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin, who is also president of the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (Maips) advised Muslims to avoid divisive practices by adhering to the quran and sunnah.
