/ Berita Terkini MAIPs / Jumaat, 02 Ogos 2024 09:11

Malaysia has expressed an interest in collaborating with Nigeria on religious matters and Islamic education.

His Royal Highness, the acting King of the State of Perlis in Malaysia and Regent of Perils Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, paid a visit to Nigeria over the weekend, sparking interest.

In his welcome address at the Malaysia High Commission in Abuja, the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Nigeria, Aiyub Bin Omar, spoke extensively about the significance of the Regent of Perils’ visit to Nigeria, saying in his opening remarks that the visit will cement advancing bilateral relations and nurturing an atmosphere of profound mutual understanding and collaboration between Nigeria and Malaysia, particularly with Nigeria’s Islamic community.

He stated, “His highness came to Nigeria on the invitation of his Eminent Sultan of Sokoto, His Majesty Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III. This visit aims to promote Perils as a state that is now attempting to grow and expand its education. The government encourages foreign students and scholars to visit.

He revealed that: “Upon arrival, the Regent visited the Sultan of Sokoto and had a robust discussion with some Islamic scholars and the Centre of Islamic Studies on the exchange of information about religions issues, the caliphate of Sokoto, and we also had a public lecture at the University of Abuja, where we also had discussions with students and professors on the topic: Fabricated Hadith.”

He stated that: “This historic visit would not only solidify diplomatic ties, but would also mark significant collaboration and create more opportunities for Islamic students in Nigeria who would like to study in Malaysia and benefit from the scholarship provided by the State of Perils, thereby strengthening the bilateral agreement between the two nations through academia.

“The visit will also include a meeting with the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, where the Regent of Perils will discuss how to foster synergy and knowledge transfer between the two countries through educational programmes and cultural values in order to promote educational standards and diplomacy.”

During a visit to Nasrul-Lahi-il Fathi Society of Nigeria (NASFAT), His Royal Highness Syed awarded five scholarships to students at Kolej Universiti Islam Perlis (KUIPs), demonstrating his commitment to global partnerships and educational excellence. Al-Mawwadah Charity Foundation made a donation of RM 200,000.00, or approximately N68,000,000.00, for the construction of a mosque in Ibadan. The gesture is intended to demonstrate his commitment to the course of Islam in Nigeria.

The envoy stated that the royal visit will encourage Nigerians to visit Perils for tourism and business purposes.
